Tazria-Metzora – Being Close to G-d

By Shalom Olensky

This week in the Torah:

Un-natural leprosy (as a deterrent to not speak wrongfully).

The Alter Rebbe explains:

Today we do not experience this, for we are imperfect inwardly as well as superficially. The aforementioned leprosy – on the outside of the skin – only comes to a person who is perfect on the inside and only needs fixing of exterior aspects of the soul.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe adds:

Nowadays the Jewish nation has reached this state, when rectification is needed merely on the outside.

One might ask:

Each person knows himself… so, what does this mean?

Perhaps:

It means that today’s problems on the inside can be more easily dealt with than in the past – by following in the path of our spiritual leaders and mentors and their teachings which have been articulated in an ever growing manner.

Hence:

It stands to reason, based on the above, that we are really close to being totally perfect – with Moshiach Now!
