Once, a chossid who was a big philanthropist made a resolution during his nightly recitation of the Shema, that for every lie that he would say, he would give twenty five rubles to charity.
When he told this to his teacher, his teacher replied: “Say many lies. This way, it will help many Jews.”
When this teacher came to Lubavitch, Reb Shmuel of Lubavitch, the fourth Lubavitcher Rebbe, rebuked him for his words.
One should never belittle the challenges of another individual. No matter if one sees a gain in sinning, sinning is never an appropriate joke.
