The Jerusalem Talmud (Berachos Ch. 9) describes the love that G-d has for the Jewish People, using the following formula:
“When an individual of flesh and blood has a relative who is a philosopher, he says this philosopher is my relative. However, G-d calls all of Israel His relatives. This is expressed in the verse (Tehillim 148:14): ‘He raised up a horn for His people, praise to all His pious ones, to the children of Israel, the people close to Him.’”
The nature of a human being is that they boast of a relative they are proud of but ignore those that they are embarrassed of. The awesomeness that the Almighty G-d boasts of his relative, Israel, is unfathomable!
