In the curses that Israel will receive if they do not hearken to the Torah, the verse (Vayikra, 26:26) states: “you will eat, yet not be satisfied.”
Chassidic thought is intent on explaining that in each curse is embedded a deep blessing and explains the positive meaning that is latent in this affliction.[1]
“You will eat” refers to Torah study which is compared to the consumption of bread.[2]
“Yet you will not be satisfied” is expressive that no matter how much one studies, they will not be satisfied. Rather “you shall always be intoxicated with her love,[3]” and constantly review your studies—each time viewing it completely new.
