The verse (Bereishit 3: 9) states: “And the Lord God called to man, and He said to him, ‘Where are you?’”
The Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi explained this verse as follows:[1] On the verse (Yirmiyahu 13:17) “in secret my soul will weep,” the Talmud (Chagiga 5b) states: “The Holy One, blessed be He, has a place and its name is ‘Secret.’”
The Holy One, blessed be He, has a place within the person which is subconscious and hidden from the person. This G-dly spark that is hidden within man calls out: “Where are you?! Chaim Hershel, where are you?!”
