Once upon a time, two souls met each other at a crossroads. One was going to Heaven, the other was going to a body on Earth.
“Tell me,” the Neshoma on his way to this world asked, “What is it really like down there?”
“The world is a place where, once you earn a few kopecks (Russian coins), you can do a mitzvah and connect to G-d,” replied the Neshoma on his way up.
The Neshoma on his way down rejoiced. “All it takes is a few kopecks to connect to G-d? That’s fantastic.” And he rushed down to his new home in a body.
The Neshoma on his way up sighed, “Just wait until he sees what it takes to earn a few kopecks.”
