The great chossid, Reb Binyomen Kletzker, was called thus because he worked in the sale of logs (the Yiddish word for log being “klotz”).
Once, when he was attending to a shipment at the banks of the river Daugava in Riga, he got lost in thought and sat thinking about Chassidus for five consecutive hours.
When people questioned him, astounded at how he could do such a thing, he replied:
“I don’t understand the surprise. What I am surprised about, is that while saying the word “echad” during the recitation of Shema, people are able to think of the logs on the banks of Riga.”
The Alter Rebbe said about Reb Binyomen, that he fulfills the mandate of, “in all your ways, you should know Him.” For, even his mundane work did not conceal his connection to G-d.
