Once, the Bal Shem Tov mentioned to an individual that he needs a certain amount of money. However, before the individual had a chance to respond the Bal Shem Tov walked away.[1]
The man ran after the Bal Shem Tov and gave him the money. When he had caught up the Bal Shem Tov he said: “Why didn’t you wait for me—I would have given you the money right away?”
The Bal Shem Tov responded: The verse (Devarim 15:18) states: “HaShem, your G-d, will bless you in all that you do.” It is understood therefore that I needed to do something—but rather than waiting I have better things to do!
A person has the choice whether to put himself in a situation where he has no time to study due to being involved in work; or he can create a situation where his work is minimal and instead he is involved in Torah study.[2]
