The fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Sholom Dovber of Lubavitch had a chossid who, though very wealthy, was particularly unlettered.
He once asked the Rebbe the following question:
“What is a tzadik? Please don’t tell me incomprehensible explanations from ‘Atzilus’—give me a simple explanation…”
The Rebbe smiled and replied:
“A tzadik is such an individual who, in his regular weekday prayer, is more inspired to connect to HaShem than you are during the Ne’ila prayer on Yom Kippur.[1]”
