A thought from Kotzk:[1]
The Talmud (Eiruvin 65a) states: “When wine goes in secrets come out.” Now, Israel’s secret is brotherly love, as in the verse (Vayikra 19:18), “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” However, Esav’s secret is in murder, as in the verse (Bereishit 27:40), “And you shall live by your sword.”
It is for this reason that when Jews gather to drink, their secret of love and is expressed and they connect to one another with comradery.
On the other hand, when gentiles gather to drink, it ends in a brawl and bloodshed.
