In the town of Liozna there was a chassid by the name of Reb Shmuel Eliezer who was a businessman. He was known as an emotional individual who was always happy.
When the Alter Rebbe was taken to prison, Reb Shmuel Eliezer worked tirelessly to ensure his release. Once the Alter Rebbe was released from prison Reb Shmuel Eliezer donated all his property to the Rebbe’s charities, saying:
“I have a healthy and living Rebbe and I don’t need money. If one has money but not a Rebbe they are susceptible to fall into the pit of believing that is all because of one’s own abilities. However, with a Rebbe – who needs money?!”[1]
